Nicole, French Girl
Item # 13748 Nicole is five years old. She lives in Paris, France, in Europe. In her country, Christmas is celebrated as a time of innocence and wonder, and the Christ Child, the Petit Noel, is a reminder of the sacredness of childhood. Paris is a very sophisticated city, and at Christmas Nicole will attend church concerts, visit family and friends, and go shopping with her mother in the beautiful French stores. Many window displays show Pere Noel arriving at Christmas with a basketful of toys and dolls. There are open Christmas markets that hold treasures in each booth. Nicoles favorite booth is the one that has creche sets, or manger scenes. Each year, Mother lets her pick out another little figure for the home creche. On Christmas Eve, Paris is awash in lights. Nicole puts out her shoes by the hearth for Pere Noel to fill with gifts. Nicole knows that the Baby Jesus has sent Pere Noel to do this task, and since he will be so busy tonight she has left him a little snack and a small glass of wine. Christmas Eve is spent singing songs around the creche, eating good food, and enjoying the family and other relatives. Older children will go to Midnight Mass with their parents, but Nicole will be tucked into bed. As she snuggles under her comforter and falls asleep, Nicole dreams she is Pere Noel's helper. Together they are traveling from house to house putting the gifts in children's shoes. As Pere Noel stops to look over the vast city of Paris, Nicole, dressed in her snowflake red coat and clutching her rabbit, points him to her house. Soon it will be Christmas morning and Nicole's dream will come true.
