In a far away land, and long ago, a lovely young couple, Mary and Joseph, traveled from their little village to a town called Bethlehem to register for the census. Led by Joseph, Mary, pregnant with her first child, rode a donkey as they made their way to the city. When they arrived, it was late and getting dark, so Joseph guided the little donkey from inn to inn looking for a place for Mary to rest. Unfortunately, there were no rooms left at the inns. Finally an innkeeper, feeling compassion, offered the weary couple his stable in the back of the inn. The stable was cozy and gave Joseph and Mary a place to settle and wait for the birth of their child. A lantern cast a warm glow, filling the stable with peaceful light. Late during the
