Victorian Angel

Item # 11514
The Victorian era was a time of grand Christmas celebrations hallmarked by family gatherings where games were played and good food shared. The exchange of gifts was only a minor part of the festivities. Gifts were small and often handmade but given in the spirit of love and friendship. Little paper pictures of angels and Santas called "scraps" were cut out and glued onto packages and cookies, or simply pasted into "scrap" books and collected. During this time, angels were a particular favorite "scrap" and Victorian artists often depicted them in flowing gowns or in more traditional Victorian clothing. The Victorian Angel was inspired by a Victorian scrap. She wears a beautiful soft gown that moves with the clouds, tied with a wide French ribbon. She has gold curls and small wings since she is still just a young angel. In the spirit of Christmas, she holds out her gift, a sumptuous basket of beautiful flowers, the perfect gift, given in love and friendship at any time of the year.
